We are proposing “accommodations that bring guests into the world of literature through food.” Kyoto is home to many cultures, including food and literature. There is a close relationship between them that cannot be ignored. Tawara-An Retreat is a facility with a modern feel while still retaining traditional Japanese architecture characteristics. In this proposal, while maintaining the characteristics of Tawara-An Retreat, the entire building will be renovated to accommodate several groups rather than just one private party. We thought that by combining the three elements of food, literature, and lodging, we could create an environment that would allow guests to enter the world of literature. Some services combine two of these elements, but only a few combine all three. This proposal will differentiate us from our competitors and pinpoint the needs of users who love books and literature. It increases the value of the property by creating a facility for which there are few alternatives.
Room
This is an image of the room where guests will mainly spend their time. The room is designed to be relaxing and free of stress factors for the guests. Here they will mainly relax and read. The details are described in the following pages, but in this room, they can immerse themselves in the world of the book they are reading, while tasting the food and drinks that appear in the book. If they find it troublesome to move around, they can also call the staff and order food or drinks by showing them the ticket that comes with the book you are reading.
library
In this shared space, guests can find books to read. We expect the library collection to consist of 2,000 to 8,000 books, mainly literature, and they can pick up any book they like and read. Not all books come with a ticket to order food at first, but we will gradually expand. The ticket can be taken home after use. It is not just a “ticket to order food” but also a souvenir to remember the place by.
Cafeteria
In this cafeteria, people can use the tickets that come with the book to order the dishes that appear in the book. By scanning the barcode on the ticket, recipes for dishes appearing in the books will be displayed on a dedicated tablet. The cooks prepare the food based on the recipes on the tablet. Since many dishes are available, it takes a little longer to serve them, but we are sure the guests will be very satisfied. Even without the tickets, they can still order by selecting a dish from a menu.
Marketing Strategy
As one of our management strategies, we will establish a brand image based on the concept of “entering the world of literature through food.” Just as BOOK AND BED became a popular idea of a “bookstore where you can stay,” we will market it in a way that is easily picked up by social media and other platforms. This COVID situation has caused a downturn in the traveling industry, but this proposal minimizes the impact as it is based on reading books, not on going out and sightseeing. Data shows that 86% of wealthy people are readers, and by enhancing the brand image as mentioned above and the quality of service, we can attract rich people and expect higher room rates (Data Source:https://gentosha-go.com/articles/-/34844?page=1). This will increase the value of Tawara-An Retreat and gain the interest of investors by adding value as a brand rather than just a lodging facility.
